Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden championship after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since March of that year.

Victory also indicates he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on court had prompted some to question if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

He saved four initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
